I was tasked with creating a Milwaukee-themed poster and postcard. The post card had to use three different colors and the postcard could only use one color (per side). In the summer of 2025, my friend Zach Steiner (photographer) and I took hundreds of photos while walking around Milwaukee (as well as many other places in Wisconsin and Chicago). I decided to use our photos to illustrate the unique personality of Wisconsin and give an authentic view into the Milwaukee lifestyle.
Problem: I was tasked with designing a Milwaukee-themed poster and postcard and to screen print them respectively.
Solution: Luckily, because I am a Milwaukee native and resident and do many creative things in my free time, I had hundreds of photos that my friend and I took the previous summer and I decided to utilize these photos to make a collage meant to look like a real composed scene of various Milwaukee buildings and landmarks as well as a friendly pigeon. I chose to use Milwaukee colors (blue and yellow) as well as a coppery green that is commonly seen on streetlights in Milwaukee (especially in The Third Ward). For the postcard, I utilized an image of Milwaukee’s city hall building as well as an image of wooden seagulls that can be seen in Milwaukee’s 3rd Street Market if you look up.
THE PROCESS
These are sketches, rough drafts, mood boards, and sporadic thoughts that led to the final product.
